Accepting These Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and STARR Community Services International ("STARR," "we," "us," or "our"). They apply to your use of starrcs.org and the forms, registrations, and online tools that connect to it (together, the "Site").
By using the Site, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. If you are under 18, please have a parent or guardian read these Terms with you. Youth programs are registered by a parent or guardian.
About the Site
STARR is a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides STEAM education to youth and families at no cost. The Site shares information about who we are, our programs, our events, and how to get involved, enroll, or give. Information on the Site is provided for general purposes and may change without notice.
Using the Site
You may use the Site for lawful purposes that are consistent with our mission. When you use it, you agree not to:
- Break any law or violate the rights of others
- Submit false, misleading, or someone else's information in a form or registration
- Try to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its servers, or its data
- Introduce viruses, malware, or other harmful code
- Interfere with the Site's operation or overload it with automated requests
- Collect information about other visitors, or about program participants, without permission
- Use the Site to harass, threaten, or contact young people inappropriately
- Copy, scrape, or reuse Site content in ways these Terms do not allow
Programs, Events, and Registration
Program enrollment and event registration are completed through forms on the Site, which are provided by Zeffy. A parent or guardian must complete enrollment for any child, and by doing so confirms they have the authority to enroll that child and that the information provided is accurate.
Submitting a form does not guarantee a spot. Programs and events may have age ranges, capacity limits, schedules, and additional requirements such as waivers, permission forms, or media releases. Those requirements apply in addition to these Terms, and if they conflict with these Terms, the program requirements control for that program.
We may change, reschedule, or cancel a program or event, for example because of weather, safety, venue, or staffing. We will make reasonable efforts to notify registered families. Participation is subject to STARR's expectations for safe and respectful conduct, and we may remove a participant or attendee whose behavior puts others at risk.
Donations and Payments
Gifts to STARR are voluntary. Donations and ticket payments are processed by Zeffy, and your use of Zeffy is also subject to its own terms and privacy policy. STARR does not receive or store your full payment card number.
Donations are generally non-refundable, except where the law requires otherwise or where we agree to correct a mistake, such as a duplicate or incorrect charge. If you believe there was an error, please contact us as soon as possible. Your receipt from Zeffy shows how your gift was recorded; for questions about the tax treatment of a gift, please consult a tax advisor.
We use gifts in support of our mission and programs. Unless a donor has agreed to a restriction in writing, STARR decides how best to use each gift.
Our Content and Your Submissions
Our content
The Site's text, graphics, logos, photographs, videos, and design are owned by STARR or used with permission, and they are protected by copyright and other laws. "STARR" and our logos are our marks. You may view the Site and share links to it. Please ask for our written permission before copying, modifying, distributing, or using our content or marks for any other purpose.
Photos and video of young people on the Site are shared with permission for STARR's purposes only. Please do not download them for reuse, or share them in ways that identify or single out a child.
What you send us
If you send us a message, story, testimonial, or other material, you confirm that you have the right to share it. You give STARR permission to use it to operate and promote our programs, and we will ask before publishing anything that identifies you by name, or that identifies a minor. You keep ownership of what you send.
Third-Party Services and Links
The Site includes links to, and content from, services we do not control, including Zeffy, Instagram, YouTube, and social media platforms. We are not responsible for their content, availability, or practices, and your use of them is at your own risk and subject to their own terms.
Disclaimers
The Site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that information on it is always complete or current.
Information on the Site is not legal, financial, tax, medical, or other professional advice. Descriptions of our programs and their benefits are meant to inform you and do not guarantee any particular result for a participant.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, STARR, its directors, officers, staff, and volunteers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data or profits, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site. If we are found liable, our total liability for all claims related to the Site is limited to the amount you paid us through the Site in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred dollars, whichever is greater.
Some laws do not allow certain limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Responsibility for Your Use
You are responsible for your use of the Site and for the information you submit. To the extent the law allows, you agree to be responsible for claims, losses, and costs that arise from your violation of these Terms or misuse of the Site.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information, including information about children. It is part of these Terms.
Suspending Access
We may suspend or end your access to the Site at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, put others at risk, or misused the Site.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. You and STARR agree that any dispute related to these Terms or the Site will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
General Terms
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and STARR about the Site, along with any program-specific requirements described above
- Severability. If a part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest stays in effect
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a part of these Terms right away, we have not given up our right to do so later
- Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours to a successor organization
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the effective date at the top. Your continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
